Eid-el-Kabir: Do not lower your guards, give adequate protection to Nigerians on waterways – Maritime Police

–Sanction boats, vessels without life saving apparatuses

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Maritime Police Command, FHQ Annex, Lagos, AIG Olofu A. Rhoda has counselled the commands and formations under her not to lower their guards in the deployment of personnel and equipment for the protection and preservation of lives to forestall activities of miscreants at Salah.

AIG Rhoda in her address to heads of Command and Formations under the Maritime Police Command felicitated with the Muslim community globally on the occasion of Eid-El Kabir celebrations, urged them to imbibe the culture of love and sacrifice that the season exemplifies.

In a release by ASP Ehinmode Rowland Adewumi, Ag. Police Public Relations Officer of the command made available to Nation Update the AIG directed the Commissioners of Police, Port Authority Police, Eastern and Western Commands, The National Inland Waterways Police (NIWA) and the Force Marine Officer be more vigilant in their protection and preservation of lives, and the nation’s critical infrastructures especially during the holidays.

All NIWA commanders and State Marine Officers she enjoined to enforce restrictions on boats and vessels operating without life saving vest/jackets and other life saving apparatuses. She stated further that boats operators must be warned to avoid overloading and ensure that no passenger obstructs the view of boatsman while on board. In addition, the AIG directed that passengers should be advised to furnish details of their next of kin before embarking on any journey on the nation’s inland waterways.

AIG Olofu concluded by advocating for continuous collaboration and synergy between the maritime stakeholders to ensure safe, peaceful and secure environment for all.
