Oniha Erazua, Dagogo, and Ekwere Take New Roles in MWUN

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has confirmed Comrade Oniha Erazua as its substantive Secretary General, six months after serving in an acting capacity.

In a statement by Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, Head of Media, MWUN, alongside Erazua’s confirmation, Olangwe Fred Dagogo and Joseph Ekwere have been appointed as General Secretaries of the Seamen & Water Transport Branch and Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) Branch, respectively.

The release stated that the confirmation took place on 13th August, 2025 during a joint session of both the National Administrative Council (NAC) and the Central Working Committee (CWC) of the Maritime apex union.

Erazua brings a wealth of experience, having progressed through the ranks from Assistant Secretary General to Deputy Secretary General of Training, Research, Education, and Media. He holds a Master’s Degree from the University of Ibadan and previously worked as a tutor.

The other two appointments of Olangwe Fred Dagogo, a Mechanical Engineering graduate from the University of Port Harcourt, who has been named General Secretary of the Seamen & Water Transport Branch.

Dagogo previously served as the Organising Secretary. Comrade Joseph Ekwere, a graduate of the University of Lagos, has been confirmed as General Secretary of the NPA Branch.

Ekwere rose from the position of Computer Secretary, a position he held diligently for the maximum period under the Seamen & Water Transport Branch before his present designation.
