Uzodimma orders 112 appointees to show six months performance report

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has made a demand of performance report from the appointees of his government for the last six months.

Uzodimma who handed down the directive to the 23 Commissioners, 89 Special Advisers and Senior Special Assistants during his meeting with them held at Exco chamber, Imo State Government House Owerri.

The appointees are by the Governor’s directive expected to itemize their individual achievements in the past six months they have held sway in their various ministries, departments and bureaus. They are to report in the next 10 days.

This is coming on the heels of alleged poor performance of some of the appointees since the inception of the government.

During the inauguration of the over 112 appointees of the governor on Monday 23 September, 2020, the governor had called on the appointees to see their appointments as a privilege they could not afford to abuse.

While assigning portfolios to the commissioners at the government house, he urged them to hit the ground running, reminding them that any action capable of bringing government to ridicule will be unacceptable.

The former senator had said: “It is important that you don’t take the oath of office as a mere ritual, you must take every word there seriously. You owe it a duty to Imo people and God to ensure that you don’t fail in your assignment. You are now a magnifying glass with which the public will see our government.”

Presently, most of the appointees are seen to have performed poorly either on account of inefficiency or for overlapping responsibilities caused partly by the over bloated portfolios may have doubled up their efforts within the shortest possible time in order to escape sack.

Intense lobbying is currently going on in the state among the appointees in one hand, and their godfathers on the other hand.

While some are currying all supports to retain their positions, few others are trying out their hands to be favoured into big bigger and juicy portfolios. Above all, the fear of being sacrificed on the alter of the present realignment going on in the state which appears quite whimsical.
