Uzodimma dissolves Okorocha’s Traditional council

The Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma has dissolved the His Royal Majesty, Eze Samuel Ohiri led State Traditional Rulers Council(STRC).

The Ohiri  STRC constituted by the former Governor Rochas Okorocha at the height of his controversial removal of the Eze Cletus Ilomuanya’s led regime in 2011.

The dissolution of the council was announced at a gathering of Imo traditional rulers in Owerri on Monday, with a call on the traditional rulers to remain calm and concentrate on improving the security of lives and property in their respective domains by the governor.

Rochas’ and Ihedioha

The Ohiri STRC constituted by Okorocha was allowed to be in the eight months reign of Emeka Ihedioha  in the state.

Uzodimma reiterated the need for peaceful coexistence among traditional rulers and promised that at the end of the day, the new Council, when put in place, will be to the benefit and satisfaction of all concerned.

According to the governor, the Community Government Council, CGC, law in the state has been repelled, pointing out that the action was for the benefit of the traditional institution.

He further issued guidelines on the community security, stressing on the implementation of a new proactive, effective and efficient security architecture that will guarantee the security of lives and property in the respective communities in Imo.

The governor, said the arrangement of the Community Policing Initiative, CPI, was conceived by the federal government and to be implemented by the state, ward, and communities.

“The arrangement is specifically to prevent crime and abort criminal activities of all forms at the grassroots. The body will be established at each ward, community, local government, zonal level up to the state,” he said.

The security innovation is aimed at giving indigenes charge of security challenges in their communities with the guidance and assistance of the police, emphasised that the success of the initiative will depend completely on credible, suitable and reliable indigenes selected to take charge of the operations.

The traditional rulers who are leaders of their respective communities are to take responsibility as chief security officers of their communities and get involved in the appointment of men and women respected by other members of the community to be part of the new security structures in thier domains.
