Tension as Customs GC’s convoy involves in auto crash in Abuja

Convoy of the Comptroller General of NCS, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi survived a ghastly auto accident last Tuesday in Abuja.

Sources said two operatives of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) were feared dead.

The accident occurred at the Diamond Bank junction along Ademola Adetokunbo crescent in Abuja at about 5: 30 pm.

Account of an eyewitness narrated that the accident happened on account of high speed of the convoy of the custom’s controller general which interrupted traffic on the busy road.

Went on to stated that despite the fact that it was a rush hour, the Custom boss’ convoy was said to have ignored the traffic light and was blaring siren while outriders sped around the busy road in bid to “clear road.”

A Toyota Hilux carrying escort guards on the CG’s convoy collided with a Mercedes Benz GLE driven by a whose identity and state have not been ascertained yet as the vehicle may have somersaulted.

Two of the escort guards who were thrown on the road were later confirmed dead in the hospital,

Reports confided by a customs officer, several operatives of the NCS sustained varied degrees of injuries as they were all thrown off as the Hilux lost control, hit a street light and subsequently somersaulted.

The accident disrupted traffic on the busy road for several hours. The identity of the victims were not immediately available. Operatives of Road Traffic Control of the Nigerian Police, however, swiftly arrived and cleared the road.

Unconfirmed reports said the accident may have necessitated the indefinite postponement of the CGC’S award by Maritime Journalists earlier scheduled for Thursday 17 January, 2025 at Airport Hotel, Ikeja Lagos.
