Police assures women in Maritime of unwavering commitment to gender inclusion

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Musa Yusuf Garba has assured the delegation of Women in Maritime of West and Central Africa (WIMOWCA),that the Nigeria Police Force, under the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, remains committed to gender inclusion.

Musa who is the AIG in charge of the Maritime Police Command, Force Headquarters Annex, Lagos stated this yesterday Friday 9 May, 2025 when he played host to WIMOWCA delegation led by its President, Mrs. Oritsematosan Edodo-Emore.

He emphasized that the Maritime Police Command has continued to upholds the gender inclusion mandate by ensuring that women hold strategic leadership roles within its management team.

In a release made available by ASP Adebayo Rasheed, Public Relations Officer of the command made available to Nation Update expressed the AIG’s readiness to partner with WIMOWCA and other maritime-based associations, especially in organizing capacity-building workshops for officers and men of the Command.

Musa further emphasised that such engagements would increase operational efficiency and enhance the Command’s core mandate of safeguarding lives and property within Nigeria’s maritime environment.

Earlier, in her speech WIMOWCA president Edodo-Emore, commended the Maritime Police Command for its unwavering efforts in tackling criminal activities within Nigeria’s maritime domain.

The WIMOWCA president a national arm of the regional body established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in 2021 noted with delight the Command’s steadfast commitment in the face of societal constraints, further advocated for increased gender inclusiveness and equitable representation of women within the Command.

WIMOWCA-Nigeria, is tasked with driving the IMO’s global vision of inclusion, diversity, and the advancement of women in the maritime sector.
