Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has said the spate of killings in the country today and the failure of governmemt to protect them has forced the masses to take the law into their hands.

Insecurity he said has grossly nosedived that human beings are being slutered as rams in the present political dispensation.

Uzodimma who stated this while speaking with Journalists after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at governmemt house Abuja last Wednesday highlighted that the nation’s political leaders are the brains behind the widespread violence in the country.

Speaking on the backdrop of the recent attack on the Nigerian Defence Academy Kaduna, the Imo governor posited that people must not take laws into their hands no matter their grievance.

Uzodimma said, “The business of government is the protection of lives and property, and we must act as a government and live up to the responsibilities of government.

“So, we try to maintain law and order and condemn illegal and criminal activities as well as make those who are apprehended to face the law.”

Uzodimma further urged Nigerians, “respect and obey the rule of law and do things that are allowed by law and condemn illegal and criminal activities.

“so many people are taking laws into their hands, and some aggrieved people have resorted to self-help.”

He decried, in strong terms the rate at which human lives are being wasted on daily basis.

“It’s condemnable. It’s unfortunate that people kill human beings these days as if they are killing rams.”

On the way to arrest the menace of unknown gunmen and banditry, he said, “I am almost certain that if all of us agree today that unknown gunmen and bandits must stop, they will stop.

“Somehow, some people tacitly and otherwise are still allowing and encouraging these criminals to harass and intimidate innocent citizens…Illegality upon illegality is still illegality,” he stated.
