NIWA open to PPP for quick revitalization of Oguta River Port

The National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) has initiated the revival of the Oguta River Port in Imo State, expressing readiness to partner with private interests through a public-private partnership (PPP) to accelerate the port’s revitalization.
In a release signed by Suleiman Makama, AGM (Corporate Affairs), NIWA Managing Director Mr. Bola Oyebamiji highlighted the Oguta River Port’s centrality to Southeast Nigeria’s development and its alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda via the Federal Ministry of Marine Economy.
Dr. Chioma Nwachukwu, Managing Director of Orashi Special Energy Free Trade Zone, affirmed her company’s willingness to collaborate with NIWA to tap the port’s potential for attracting investments, boosting industrial activities and creating jobs.
The Oguta River Port’s revival is expected to enhance trade, transportation and connectivity in the region, contributing to economic growth and industrialization efforts in Nigeria’s Southeast.
NIWA’s move reflects efforts to expand Nigeria’s transport infrastructure and reduce reliance on oil revenues, with the authority welcoming partnerships to make the Oguta River Port a hub for commercial and industrial activities.
