Lagos records 7 containers fall, 3 boats capsize – LASEMA

According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), which oversees emergency and disaster coordination, the state recorded seven container falls and three boat capsizes over the past ten months.

The agency said, out of the 1,367 Incidents recorded between January and October 31st, 2024, based on categorization, that Truck/Tanker Category which comprises of truck accidents, containers fall, broken down trucks ranks highest.

The report went further to reveal that Marine Category ranks eighth with 3 boat capsizes and 3 flood incidents recorded within the period.

In a press statement by Nosa Okunbor, Head, Public Affairs Unit of LASEMA made available to Nation Update revealed that emergencies/disasters incidents was 147 across the state in the month of October 2024, compared to 141 in January.

The month of February he said recorded the highest with 156 incidents, 148 in March, 132 April, 147 in May, 126 in June, 123 incidents in July, 121 in August, and 126 in September, totalling 1,367 incidents.

According to the report, of the 147 emergency incidents attended to in the month of October, 2024, road accidents category ranks highest with a record of 50 vehicular incidents, followed by 43 incidents in the Truck/Tanker category comprising of 35 Accidents and 8 Broken Down Trucks in second place.

Third place in the ranking goes to Medical Incidents with 20 cases, fourth place was Fire Disasters comprises of 16 Fire Outbreaks and 1 Burnt Vehicle/BRT incident(17).

10 others in fifth place, 4 Collapsed Buildings in the sixth place, and 1 incident each in the train and Marine categories at seventh place.

He said, “The Marine category made up of 6 Flood incidents comprises of 3 Flood incidents, and 3 Boat Capsizes rank eighth, the Spillage/Leakage category made up of 5 incidents which comprises of 2 Gas, 1 Diesel, 1 Pipeline and 1 Gas Tanker spills, ranks ninth, while the Air/Train Accident category which recorded 3 incidents so far in the year, ranks tenth.

“Analysis of the 1,367 incidents attended so far this year according to categorisation of incidents, available records show that the Truck/Tanker category ranks highest with 432 incidents in the last ten months. This number is made up of 297 truck accidents, 7 fallen containers, 110 Broken Down Trucks, 3 stuck trucks and 15 fallen truck/tankers.”

He went further to report that a grand total of 7,809 incidents attended to by LASEMA between 1st June 2019 and 30th September, 2024
