Jakande: we’ve lost mentor, bridge builder, father—ldimogu

The death of the first civilian governor of Lagos State Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande, has been described as a huge loss to Lagos and Nigeria.

The lawmaker representing Oshodi/Isolo II at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon Jude Chukwuemeka Idimogu disclosed that a mentor, a father and a bridge builder has been when his fatherly advise are needed most.

In a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Henry Uzodinma, the lawmaker commiserated with the family of the late former Governor, the government and the good people of Lagos State on the demise of this rare gem.

Idimogu, an Igboman, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly said Baba Kekere died when the country needed him most.

He said, “with profound condolences, I write to Commiserate with the entire family of Late Chief Lateef Jakande and the good people of Lagos State over the death of our beloved father and Mentor who has just passed on.

“Late Chief L.K Jakande was an embodiment of good governance, an astute politician and a bridge builder, who was loved by all that came in contact with him. His death had really created a huge vacuum which would be difficult to fill.”

Idimogu who is the Chairman, House Committee on Wealth Creation however recalled happy moments he shared with the late sage, most recently, during the football tournament he organized at Jakande Estate.

“Late Chief Jakande’s death is shocking and a painful loss to Lagos State and Nigeria in general, he will be greatly missed by all of us in this State” Idimogu said.

The Lawmaker prayed that God almighty will comfort his family, loved ones and grant them the fortitude to bear the Irreparable loss.

The President Muhammadu Buhari, Senate President Ahmad Lawan, House of Representatives Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, former Lagos State Governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and other notable Nigerians have paid their tributes to this “selfless achiever”, who transformed Lagos.

The ex-Governor who ruled the state from October 1, 1979 to December 31, 1983 died peacefully on Thursday 11 February, 2020 at the age of 91
