INEC Appointment: Buhari nominates Yakubu Chairman for 5 more years

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu,has been nominated for appointment  for another second term of five years.
President Muhammadu Buhari stated this in his letter to the Senate President Ahmed Lawan.
The letter was issued on Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina.
According to the letter, the President stated that the step was in accordance with the provision of Section 154 (1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).
“I am pleased to present for confirmation by the Senate, the nomination of Professor Mahmood Yakubu for appointment as Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for a second and final term.”

Yakubu and Jega

Yakubu was first appointed by President Buhari in November 2015 for his first term when he took over from Professor Atahiru Jega who served only one term.

The first five years term of Yakubu ends next month(November).
