IBM Lagos unveils ₦350m multipurpose hall as part of 40th anniversary celebrations

Indeed, with a call answered for support, The International Brothers Movement (IBM), Lagos launched a ₦350m hall project as part of its 40th anniversary, showcasing the club’s commitment to growth and unity.

Chief Chukwudi Okparaku, Chairman of the IBM Lagos Branch, addressing members, patrons, and guests, described the celebration as “a significant milestone in the club’s history,” noting it was founded in Lagos in 1985/1986.

The meeting opened with a minute’s silence, paying tribute to members who’d passed on.

He recounted that the International Brothers Movement emerged post-Nigerian-Biafran Civil War, when eight young men – the G8 – united to foster brotherhood and social cohesion.

According to him, the Lagos branch has since grown in size and influence, with several members now living outside the country.

He noted that the club had consistently held some of its end-of-year events abroad.

The president said the club had recorded significant achievements in the last two years, including the acquisition of land from the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) through the efforts of its Land Procurement Committee.

He said the land, measuring 1,000 square metres, had been fenced, while work was ongoing to complete the securing and development of the site.

“We have also strengthened our financial position through transparency and accountability. Our members have shown remarkable commitment,” he said.

He said the club’s major focus for the coming year was the commencement of the IBM Multipurpose Hall project, estimated at ₦350 million.

He appealed to members and well-wishers to support the initiative.

The president said the Lagos branch currently had 70 active members, adding that new members were welcome as long as they met the club’s requirements.

He commended past leaders of the club for their contributions, and thanked the executive committee and all other committees for their dedication.

He thanked the members’ spouses, calling them “our queens who’ve stood by us, backing the club’s vision.”

The president called on members to stay committed to the club’s ideals – mutual support and promoting unity among men.
