Gombe 2024: Games village ready for inter-secondary championship

Planned building projects at the proposed Games Village to house athletes for the Maiden Inter-Secondary Athletics Championship has reached advance stage and will be commissioned soon.

Given, the Inter-Secondary Mega Championships put together by the Sponsor Hon. Ahmed Shuaibu Gara-Gombe will kick-off on October, 18th to 24th inside the main bowl of Pantami Stadium Gombe.

The Chairman AthIetics Association of Gombe(AAG), State Hon. Gara-Gombe made this known after chairing a meeting of LOC members and Sub-Committees recently.

Hon. Gara-Gombe who is the  Chief Executive Officer of Green White Green (GWG) Sports Center Ltd, a sports firm expressed satisfaction on the progress of work done at the Games Village.

He ostensibly believed that Athletes will find their accommodation at the Games Village very appealing  and comfortable for relaxation as well as to enhance performance when the Championships finally begins in October 18th.

Hon. Gombe who was briefed by the various committees applauded them for a job well done, urged them to expedite action on the remaining jobs for early completion.

The project he revealed has gulped millions of naira and at the same time attained expected international standard.

“History is in the making, this is the first time in Gombe State an individual is taking up a project from the scratch for the benefit of young and talented Athletes,” he stated.

Answering questions from newsmen, he maintained that benefits accrued to Gombe as a State when he also sponsored the first Primary Schools AthIetics Championships where AthIetics drawn from his AthIetics Academy represented Gombe State at the 7th National Youth Games 2023 in Asaba as started yielding fruit.

Apparently glad for these achievements, the sports entrepreneur urged government to encourage private corporate bodies to invest in the sporting sector by recognition their efforts.

On the importance of the championship, he alluded that, young talents would be discovered to advance sports in the state even as sporting infrastructures would be developed, etc.

He revealed that his passion for sports sponsorship and development is just, “A desire I had nursed for a long time is being actualised”, desire of taking most youth out of the streets and getting them engaged.
