Eze Njoku urges Ohanaeze to promote, preserve Igbo cultural heritage

Eze (Amb) Nicholas Emenike Njoku, has tasked Ohanaeze Ndigbo to take the lead on the promotion, preservation, and sustenance of Igbo culture and traditions.

Eze Njoku who is the Ohazurume I of Ejigbo and the Eze Ndigbo of Aigbaka Ejigbo Lagos State was addressing leaders of the Pan lgbo Socio Cultural Organization, Ohaneze Ndigbo Lagos State at a meeting in Lagos.

Speaking to the 57 newly elected Local Government and Local Council Development Areas chairmen of Ohaneze of Lagos State at the meeting, Eze Ohazurume called for more proactive steps at ensuring that Igbo language, culture and traditions are sustained and promoted.

Eze Njoku who is an Ambassador with the United Nations noted with dismay that the young generation appeared to have preference for English language and western culture rather than theirs.

Njoku frowned at the rate at which culture and traditions of the lgbos are fast loosing values, decried that if this ugly trend remains unchecked, totality of Igbo identity will go extinct as predicted by the United Nations.

The monarch who has contributed his quota in the promotion of Igbo heritage, who is the founder of “Ulo Nmuta Omenala Nasusu igbo” harped on the need for the preservation of cultural and traditional practices as a way of enhancing unity and development among the lgbo speaking communities.

” Igbo people are unique and they are very special, our cultural belief have helped to promote peace and good upbringing of our children. I want to use this medium to encourage you to keep up the good work, which you are doing in your local government areas so as to promote lgbo culture and tradition but we need to put more effort so that our heritage would not go into extinct.

“My appeal to you all is to ensure that all hands are on deck for the sustenance of the Igbo heritage. Do not be discouraged by the challenges you are to face; but see the challenges as a stepping stone to your success,” he submitted.
He enjoined the gathering to come up with innovations and programs that will promote, and imbue progress to Igbo Speaking Community.

Responding the President General Ohaneze Lagos State, Chief Sunday Ossai thanked him for finding out time to associate with the group, and commending him for his selfless contribution to the sustenance of lgbo language and culture among the young generation.

His efforts according to Ossai are crystally clear geared towards encouraging young generation to the understanding of Igbo culture, tradition and norms.

He pledges the umbrella body’s support to ensuring that the United Nation’s prediction does not come to pass, while appealing to other monarchs and good spirited Igbo sons and daughters to rally their support to this project.
