EFCC vows to investigate Lagos speaker

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has assured that it will investigate corruption allegations levelled against the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa.

The Zonal Head of the EFCC, Mohammed Rabo, gave the assurance while addressing the Civil Society Network Against Corruption (CISNAC) group who protested a petition  at the commission’s office in Lagos,

Rabo promised that the petition submitted by the group will be given the attention it deserves.

“We will give it the required attention. We have our process here. This is the first process. You have submitted, We will go through it. I assure you we will give it the attention it requires. Always do your things within the ambit of the law.” Rabo said.

The Lagos State House of Assembly speaker was accused of using his office to misappropriate funds and allocate contracts to himself through third party sources, as well as other acquaintances.

The speaker has however been cleared of the allegations by the nine-man fact-finding panel set up by the house and chaired by Victor Akande, representing Ojo constituency I, they declared the allegations as untrue.

But the Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA) said the probe was a smokescreen, alleging that the panel was made up of Obasa’s loyalists.
