Edo governor dumps APC, after meeting with Buhari

The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has formally resigned from his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) shortly after meeting with President Muhammad Buhari at state house Abuja.

Obaseki who made the pronouncement while addressing state house correspondents after his meeting with the President.

The governor was mute on whether he will re-contest or not to realise his second term ambition, and whether he has been offered a soft landing. He was also silent at the briefing on his next line of action.

Obaseki who was last Friday disqualified along with two other aspirants for the upcoming off season Edo State governorship election.

Prior to the announcement of his disqualification, by the APC Screening Committee led by Professor Jonathan Ayuba, Obaseki had expressed doubt in getting favourable result from the committee set up by Adams Oshiomhole the national chairman of the party.

The screening was described by Crusoe Osagie,the governor’s spokesman before the announcement as a mockery of the democratic process, and as Oshiomhole’s dictatorship taken too far.

Having met with two People’s Democracy Party(PDP) governors from his region, the South/South; Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom, speculations are rife that he may defect to the PDP to realise his second term ambition.
