Customs collaborates NDLEA, others on prevention, fight against trafficking at 2024 World Drug Day

Today, the Customs Area Controller of Apapa Command, Comptroller Babatunde Olomu joined the Commander National Drug Law Enforcement Agency(NDLEA), Apapa Special Area in commemorating the 2024 International Day against Drug Abuse.

The controller in collaboration with other government agencies in the port embark on the walk to bring awareness on the dangers inherent in drug abuse, and help Nigerians realize how drugs can damage an individual’s personal, social, and spiritual life.

Olomu however encouraged such collaboration among sister agencies of government which he said is crucial for intelligence sharing and ensuring public safety.

Further noted that by working together, security agencies can achieve greater success and better protect their communities than they could alone.

International Day Against Drug Abuse is celebrated every 26 June with this year’s theme as, “The evidence is clear: invest in prevention” aimed at Encouraging greater investment in prevention efforts by governments, policymakers, and law enforcement professionals; highlighting the long-term benefits of early intervention and prevention.

This year’s anniversary further aims at creating awareness among the people about how important it is to help and offer treatment to people who are taking drugs. Encourage treatment of people with empathy and care, rather than giving them tough and inhumane punishments as espoused by The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
