Customs ‘B’Odogwu’ platform aims to boost trade efficiency at port, says Compt Onyeka

In a significant stride toward modernising Nigeria’s maritime operations, the Tincan Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has successfully processed its first Single Goods Declaration (SGD) through the newly developed indigenous platform, B’Odogwu.

The landmark event marks a critical step in enhancing trade facilitation, transparency, and operational efficiency at one of Nigeria’s busiest seaports. The deployment of the B’Odogwu platform aligns with the Federal Government’s push to improve the ease of doing business through digital transformation.

Commenting on the milestone, the Customs Area Controller of the Tincan Island Command, Comptroller Frank Onyeka, stated:

“This achievement demonstrates our readiness to embrace technology that streamlines cargo clearance procedures, reduces dwell time, and improves service delivery. The B’Odogwu platform has shown great promise, and we are proud to be pioneers in its implementation.”

Comptroller Onyeka also revealed that the Command now boasts 100percent network infrastructure coverage across all terminals and its headquarters, effectively resolving the issue of network failure and ensuring uninterrupted connectivity for cargo and trade documentation.

Designed to integrate seamlessly with existing Customs systems, the B’Odogwu platform offers a user-friendly interface for declarants, brokers, and other trade stakeholders. It supports real-time cargo tracking, document processing, and compliance management—eliminating manual delays and enhancing overall efficiency.

Ahead of the launch, the Command conducted extensive training sessions and stakeholder engagements in partnership with the platform’s developers. Participants included shipping lines, customs-licensed agents, terminal operators, and customs officials.

The sessions focused on system navigation, cargo tracking, document processing, and compliance protocols to ensure smooth adoption.

One of the first users of the platform, SteveJosh Logistics International Limited, whose declaration was the first successfully processed, praised the innovation. The company expressed optimism that the system will lower transaction costs and elevate Nigeria’s standing in global trade.

The Tincan Island Port Command reiterated its commitment to leveraging technology in support of national economic growth and the country’s international trade goals.
