Covid 19: Rotary club, WIF make donations to LASUTH

As part of efforts by individuals, organisations and agencies to put an end to the raging covid 19 pandemic, Rotary club of Lekki Golden, Distirict 9110, Lagos in collaboration with Winifred Igweonwu Foundation on Friday donated items worth millions of naira to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) in Lagos.

President of the Rotary club, Mrs Winifred Igweonwu said that the gesture was borne out of the need to support the fight against the global pandemic as it continues to decimate the world economy and population.

Igweonwu, who doubles as the Chairperson/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Winifred Igweonwu Foundation (WIF) added that the donation was made possible in collaboration with the Rotary club.

Some.of the items donated by the foundation include; Hand Sanitizers, Medical Protective Gloves, Antiseptic Disinfectants, Infra-red Thermometers, customized Bedsheets and Bedspreads.

Speaking further, she maintained that the fear of further spread of the virus elicited the prompt intervention of the foundation.

In a release made available to nation update, Igweonwu stated further that the yet growing economy in Nigeria is struggling to contain the few cases so far identified and to control further spread, which aligns with one of Rotary’s 6 focus Areas which is disease prevention and control.

Her words, “So our club, the Rotary Club of Lekki Golden, in collaboration with Winifred Igweonwu Foundation felt there is a need to support the fight against the covid 19 virus in whatever little way we can.

“For this reason, we have here presented this token (Bulks of: Hand Sanitizers, Medical Protective Gloves, Antiseptic Disinfectants, Infra-red Thermometers, customized Bedsheets and Bedspreads) in our subtle might, as our way of supporting the good work being done by your Hospital and to encourage all the healthcare workers and the government not to relent in the fight.

“We therefore call on other NGOs, Corporate organisations, Private sectors and well meaning Nigerians to support in whatever way they can in this fight against the Coronavirus pandemic. We believe that together we can conquer the threat of this pandemic.

In addition, she enjoined Nigerians to abide by the regulations set by the government to contain further spread of the pandemic as well as keeping safe from the virus.

“I also use this opportunity to implore all Nigerians to comply with the government directives of Social distancing and self isolation, to stay at home if one does not have any vital need for going out; to remember to wash our hands with soap frequently for at least 20 seconds at a time;

“For the meantime, to desist from handshakes and hugging, to observe all the safety rules highlighted by the World Health Organisation and stay safe. I am certain that with the right attitude and the help of God, we will come out a better Nation after this scourge,” she advised.
