COVID-19: Highest daily cases recorded as Akwa Ibom gets 5

For the first time since the index case of the coronavirus was announced in Lagos Nigeria, on the 27th of February, 2020, the highest number of infected persons of 35 was announced on Wednesday.

According to the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Akwa Ibom showed up in the list on Wednesday with 5 cases confirmed, bringing the total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country to 174.

In the morning hours of Wednesday 1st, April NCDC announced 12 cases, but by the close  of the day, it announced  23 bringing the total number to 35.

Lagos is still leading on the chart with 91 cases, followed by FCT 35, Osun state now occupies 3rd with 14,  while Oyo comes forth with 8. Others are the new entrant Akwa Ibom 5, Ogun 4, Edo 4, Kaduna 4, Bauchi 3, Enugu 2, Ekiti 2 and Rivers 1.

NCDC went further to posit that 70 per cent of the confirmed cases are men while the remaining 30 per cent women are between the ages of 30 to 60 years. 2 deaths have been so far recorded while 9 persons have recovered.

In Europe, Italy, the death rate has remained steadily over 800 persons recently, while number of confirmed infected cases is 4,050.

Global figures of the pandemic shows that while confirmed cases of 921, 924 has been recorded, 45,597 death cases recorded while 964 have so far cheated death from the pandemic.
