COVID 19 case now in Imo, pregnancy confirmed

Imo state according to the release made by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC at 11:55 pm 25th April has now recorded one confirmed case of the dreaded coronavirus.

Of the 87 new cases reported, Imo has got its first  case, Lagos is still topping the chart  with 33 new cases, while 18 was confirmed in Borno, 12 in Osun, 9 in Katsina,  4 in Kano and Ekiti, 3 in Edo and Bauch states, bringing to  1182 confirmed reported cases in Nigeria.

According to NCDC, 222 has been so far discharged, while 35 death cases have been so far reported

It would be recalled that during a facility check tour of Imo state on 17 April, by the  NCDC Director- General,  Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, he expressed concern that, having not recorded any case in the state comes really as a surprise.

Not losing sight that Imo people by extension south  easterners  are extensive travellers, to this, Ihekweazu said, “We are happy there hasn’t been a case of COVID-19 in the state so far,  but there are two ways to be fully happy, we have to be sure that we are looking hard enough and not finding.

“This outbreak is a bit like a pregnant woman, some time at the beginning you will be asking people am i pregnant or not, eventually, it will come out if you are,” he said

The State governor, Hope Uzodimma however  solicited the support of the DG,
“We are calling on you to help us strengthen our people so we can be prepared fully in the event this  finds its way into the state,” Uzodimma said.

The pregnancy in Imo has been confirmed being the last state of the south eastern states to record a case of COVID-19, whether the state is going to witness such geometric increase being experienced in Kano Presently or the drought increase like other states in the zone, time will tell.
