Nine lawmakers of the 18 members of the Ondo state House of Assembly have written to the Speaker, urging the house to step down the planned impeachment of the state Deputy Governor Alfred Ajayi.

At the early hours of Tuesday, a fierce looking, gun trotting team of security personnel had mounted road block at the entrance gate of the Assembly complex, and every other strategic areas, displaying their readiness for any eventually over proposed impeachment plan against the deputy governor.

In an apparent twists and turns, nine lawmakers expressed their intentions to back out of the process, requested to be counted out of such plan.

In a letter signed by the nine legislators and sent to the Speaker, Rt Honorable Bamidele Oleyelogun, they implored their colleagues to step down the move and allow the deputy governor be.

The deputy governor who recently defected to the opposition People’s Democracy Party (PDP)has been in fierce political turmoil with the governor Rotimi  Akeredolu over some time now.

Their relationship became more unsavoury since his intention to context the governorship of the state with his principal and subsequent resignation from their party, All Progressive Congress (APC) to the PDP.

Ajayi, has been given a waiver by the PDP to contest the party primaries and if he emerges the flag bearer, he may eventually slogging it out with his erstwhile boss at the state Guber poll scheduled for October 20 if also he wins the APC ticket.

Inside Ondo State House of Assembly

The nine lawmakers who have saved Ajayi from this tsunami are: Honorables Ogundeji Iroju, Jamiu Suleiman, Rasheed Olalekan Elegbeleye, Temide Leonard Akinribido, Samuel Adewale, Festus Semilore, Festus Akingbaso, Adewale Williams and Temidayo Success.

Ondo state has eighteen members of the state House of Assembly from the entire local government areas of the state. With these nine members who have maintained their loyalty to the deputy governor, the journey towards his planned removal may continue to meet brick wall untill any eventual political horse trading that could make them budge.
