BREAKING: Twitter axes Buhari, deletes war threat tweet

The threat tweet released by the Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday after a security briefing in which he issued some threat of war

has attracted him sanction by the social media giant Twitter as it has deleted the said tweet.

The said tweet of the president emphasizing to

deal with ‘people’ who didn’t learn from the civil war with particular emphasis to the security situation in the Southeast Twitter said have violated its rules and policies as such warrants sanction.

The president’s tweet which has sparked outrage, with many social media users describing it as ‘genocidal’ and a direct threat to people of the South-East region of Nigeria went as thus:

“Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War.

“Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand,” Buhari tweeted.

Buhari’s reaction was in response to security reports on the attacks on facilities of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in the South East in which he vowed to annihilate those who, according to him, want to destroy his government.

Such individuals or groups he said will receive the shock of their lives as they will be treated in a language they will understand.

Out of the five tweets of the President on his meeting with Prof. Yakubu, it was the last tweet that Twitter said violated its rules and was deleted, while the remaining four tweets were retained.

Twitter has stated its Rules, policies and process of removing a tweet considered to have violated its rules.

“When we determine that a Tweet violated the Twitter Rules, we require the violator to remove it before they can Tweet again. We send an email notification to the violator identifying the Tweet(s) in violation and which policies have been violated. They will then need to go through the process of removing the violating Tweet or appealing our review if they believe we made an error,” it wrote.

The media handlers of the presidency are yet to react to the recent development.
