Amidst speculations, Rivers governor reveals political party he belongs

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has revealed his membership and stance on political party in the midst of rumours of his decampment to the Action People’s Party (APP).

Gov. Fubara’s assurance came during a visit of PDP’s Board of Trustees (BoT), led by former Senate President Senator Adolphus Wabara, to him at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Tuesady.

Contrary to speculations making the rounds that the governor might be considering leaving the PDP due to his challenges in asserting control over the party’s structure in Rivers State from his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

There were also rumors that Fubara’s supporters might run in upcoming local elections under the relatively unknown APP platform, particularly following a recent attack on the APP’s office in Port Harcourt.

The governor however reassured the BoT members, who expressed fears about potentially losing Rivers State to the opposition, that he has no plans to leave the PDP. He urged them not to believe the circulating rumors and emphasized that despite any doubts he might have had, the visit had reinforced his sense of belonging and commitment to the PDP.

Fubara in his remarks praised the BoT delegation, which included key figures like Chief Bode George, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, and Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, for their dedication to the party’s unity. He expressed gratitude for their efforts to resolve the ongoing issues and affirmed his steadfast support for the PDP.

Wabara, speaking on behalf of the BoT, outlined their mission to address the dissatisfaction and divisions within the party. He highlighted the importance of maintaining PDP’s presence in Rivers State, describing the potential loss of the state as a significant blow to Nigeria’s future.

Wabara expressed appreciation for Fubara’s patience and dedication, assuring him that the BoT would address the current crisis in accordance with party regulations. The delegation plans to meet with other key figures involved in the dispute to gain a comprehensive understanding of the situation.

In closing, Wabara reassured that under his leadership, the BoT would work diligently to prevent a repeat of past setbacks and ensure the PDP remains united and strong as it prepares for future elections.
