A/Ibom FRSC Commander resumes, reiterates need for safety orientation in schools

A new Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC), posted to Akwa Ibom State has resumed duty with a call on government for an accelerated support in the area of safety orientation in schools.

The new Commander, Oga Ochi stated this while on a courtesy visit to the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Akwa Ibom State, Prof. Nse Essien in his office as part of his familiarization tour.

Ochi disclosed that his visit was to officially intimate the Commissioner of his resumption of duties, and sue for collaboration as the ministry remains a veritable avenue to inculcate safety rules to the society especially the youths.

He said, “I consider it a privilege to be here, in any of the States we go, the Ministry of Education is always our closest ally. I strongly feel there is a need for me to come and greet you and inform you of my official resumption of schedule.”

The new Commander gave kudos to the Commissioner for his support and cooperation to the command in the State thus far.

He enumerated some of the programmes of the command to include; students outreaches, catch them young programme and various educational competitions, he therefore expressed optimism that the Commissioner’s level of experience and knowledge will be an added advantage for the state.

Ochi emphasized the need for the establishment of road safety clubs in the state schools, and sought for more government support and promised to regularly interface with the Ministry in the areas of public enlightenment and safety of lives of children on our roads.

He assured of the Command’s determination to reduce the number of road traffic accidents in the State through proper education and enlightenment.

He used the occasion to present a revised edition of the Nigeria Highway Code to the Honourable Commissioner.

Responding, the Commissioner, Nse Essien expressed his happiness over the visit, he commended the undying spirit of the FRSC in saving lives through regular interventions in the control of reckless driving and other traffic offenses over the years.

The key role the corps plays towards the growth of the society he said cannot be undermined, with a promise that on resumption of schools, steps will be taken to inaugurate the road safety club in schools across the State to inculcate the right values in students.

Essien, therefore assured of his readiness to work with the FRSC, to achieve its laudable programmes, knowing so well the benefit such collaboration would earn his ministry, the youths, the state and society at large are enermous.
