“Why Lagos House member backs Gov. Umahi’s defection”

The recent defection of the Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi from the Peoples Democratic party(PDP), to the All Progressives Congress(APC), has got the commendation of prominent Nigerians especially Igbo political big shots, even as some are averse to the decision.

The Honourable Member representing Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II  at the Lagos state House of Assembly Hon. Jude Chukwueme Idimogu, has said the governor’s decision has his support.

Speaking to Nation Update in his office over the recent development, the House Member who is of the ruling APC said from his personal experience, the decision of Umahi is a good decision taken in the interest of the Igbo nation at this critical moment of the nation’s political permutations.

Idimogu said there is no gainsaying that the hope of achieving the goals and aspirations of people of the southeast could only gain traction when they identify with the ruling party – APC.

Idimogu stated that such exposure has given him and advantage to tap  from when issues of this nature arises.

Saying that being in the opposition party in a third world country like ours may not be so easy, “during my days as a PDP member in the house, I couldn’t achieve much for my constituency. Most of the projects that were approved for me then scarcely saw the light of the day.

“It was extremely difficult for me to achieve all that I promised my constituents in an APC dominated system, even when projects are approved, they are hardly implemented.

“Things started falling in place for my constituents, and my vision when I moved over to the APC, my confidence came back, the fear of failed projects and promise failures waned.

“I think with more states in the southeast coming to join us in the APC, Igbos will be happy they did, as they will no doubt get their fair share from the national equation,” he posited.

Idimogu who is a prominent APC leader in Lagos State, being the only non-indigene in the state Assembly which has also placed him as a ranking member of the party of Igbo extraction today.

The lawmaker expressed optimism that in no distant time, more prominent Igbo leaders will join this “moving train” where their businesses and nationalistic mien would be better protected.

By the recent defection of Governor Umahi who was a former state party chairman of the PDP and now a governor along with some members of his cabinet to the ruling party over an alleged injustice meted to the southeast by the PDP, the Imo state born Hon. Idimogu believes better fortunes awaits the region in the party in the days to come.
