By Admin

Celebrated Nigerian actor and filmmaker Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, will join other industry stakeholders to examine digital content regulation and its implications for Nigeria’s creative industry at the sixth International Peace Anyiam-Osigwe Nigeria Digital Content Regulation Conference scheduled for November 18 and 19 in Lagos.

The conference, organised by the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), will hold at the MUSON Centre, Onikan, under the theme, “Film and Content Production in the Digital Era: Balancing Regulation and Innovation.”

RMD, a veteran actor, media entrepreneur and former Delta State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, will deliver the keynote address at the event, which is expected to bring together filmmakers, content creators, distributors, exhibitors, streaming platforms, policymakers, academics and other stakeholders.

The discussions will focus on emerging opportunities and challenges in digital content production, distribution and regulation, particularly as technological developments continue to reshape the creation and consumption of film and other screen content.

The NFVCB said RMD would become the first male motion-picture practitioner to deliver the conference’s keynote address, following media entrepreneur Mo Abudu in 2024 and filmmaker and producer Bolanle Austen-Peters in 2025.

The Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the board, Dr Shaibu Husseini, expressed delight at RMD’s acceptance of the invitation, describing his experience across film, media, business and public service as relevant to the issues the conference seeks to address.

“We are delighted to have Richard Mofe-Damijo deliver the keynote at this year’s PAO Nigeria Digital Content Regulation Conference. RMD represents a distinctive blend of creative excellence, entrepreneurial experience and public service,” Husseini said.

He added that the actor’s professional journey offered valuable perspectives on the opportunities facing Nigeria’s creative industries and the policy discussions required to sustain their growth.

According to Husseini, the conference will provide an important platform for stakeholders to explore how regulation can support innovation without compromising audience protection, responsible content creation and the sustainable development of the industry.

“As the boundaries between film, television and digital content continue to evolve, our challenge as regulators is to create an environment where innovation can flourish while protecting audiences, promoting responsible content and supporting the sustainable development of the industry,” he said.

He noted that the conference theme reflected the need to strike a balance between regulatory responsibility and the freedom required for creativity and technological innovation to thrive.

The two-day event will also examine digital distribution, streaming services, technology and the policy frameworks needed to strengthen Nigeria’s creative ecosystem.

RMD brings more than three decades of experience across film, television, journalism, entrepreneurship and public service. He has featured in more than 60 film and television productions in Nigerian and international markets.

He began his career as a journalist with Nigerian newspapers, including The Guardian and Concord, before venturing into media entrepreneurship. He later founded White Water Limited, a public relations firm, and RMD Productions, while also serving in Delta State’s public administration as Special Adviser and Commissioner for Culture and Tourism.

His participation is expected to contribute perspectives on the relationship between creative practice, enterprise and public policy at a time when digital platforms are expanding opportunities for content producers while raising new regulatory questions.

The PAO Nigeria Digital Content Regulation Conference is an annual initiative of the NFVCB designed to promote dialogue, collaboration and knowledge exchange on emerging issues in film and digital content regulation.
