Labour icon, Comrade Aremu’s legacy to live on – MWUN

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), has described Late Comrade Abiodun Aremu, as a labour icon and a champion of workers’ rights, whose legacy will continue to inspire generations.

The MWUN national president, Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, went on to eulogized Aremu popularly called “Aremson”, as a distinguished labour technocrat whose ideals will be difficult to replace.

In an e-signed tribute by Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, Head of Media of MWUN, the union revealed that Comrade Abiodun Aremu, a founding Secretary of the Joint Action Front (JAF) and Chairman of the Labour Service Coalition(LASCO), indeed showcased his exceptional labor activism. His fiery passion and radical approach strengthened the presence of labour movements in Nigeria, Africa, and globally.

The release stated, “Aremu was also a pioneer convener of the Action For Democracy (ADC), a political movement, where he played a key role and made significant contributions. As a born labour warrior, his ideology and philosophy will leave a lasting legacy.

“The Nigerian labour community and the global world will deeply miss Aremu’s radicalism and realism in shaping the organized labor movement in Nigeria. His instincts in labour matters were unparalleled, earning him recognition as an embodiment of labour itself.”

The MWUN boss Bunu, a prominent maritime labour leader in Nigeria further describes Comrade Aremu as a distinguished labour technocrat whose ideals on labour movement coordination will be hard to replace. Comrade Bunu notes that Aremu’s departure has left a lasting void in the labour industry.

The veteran sailor and astute administrator adds that the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria will forever remember Aremu’s invaluable contributions to the labour movement.

The union’s leadership and executives prayed for his eternal rest and offer condolences to his family, the government and people of Kwara State, seeking strength for them to bear the loss.
