Maritime stakeholders converge in Lagos to discuss industry challenges

The Nigerian maritime industry is poised to host the highly anticipated annual Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) Conference and Awards being organised in collaboration with NLNG Shipping and Marine Services Limited (NSML) at Lagos Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja this Friday 18 July,2025.

The conference with theme, “Maritime Development: Training, Port Efficiency, and Shipping Imperatives,” slated for 10:00 am will also feature awards and recognition for notable accomplishment on some prominent maritime servicing agencies, regulatory agencies, policy makers and individuals who have contributed to the growth of the industry and well-being of Nigerians.

Among the persons and organisations to be awarded include, NSML, NPA, NIMASA, ICNL, MAN Oron and NSC.

Some of the individuals to be honoured with the award include, Hon. Prince Godwin Ogorugba, Executive Chairman, Isoko North LGA, Delta State for enkindling the wave of Modernization in the area, Comrade Francis Bunu will receive accolade for conducting a successful election into the various branches of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria(MWUN).

The formost maritime news platform, journalNG will be patted for its consistency and innovations.

Various paper topics will be delivered to explore and drive the main theme home. They include: “Vintage Position, Services, Contributions to Economy, and National Development” by NSML.

– “Repositioning Nigerian Ports for Global Competitiveness and Excellence” by NPA

– “Ensuring Safety and Security on Nigerian Water-What Plans and Options” by NIMASA

– “The Nigerian Shippers’ Council and the Need for Efficient Port Regulation in Nigeria’s Port Industry” by NSC

– “Ensuring Efficient Manpower in Nigerian Maritime Industry-What Strategies and Options?” by Maritime Academy of Nigeria Oron.

Chairman of the organizing committee, Paul Ogbuokiri, while addressing newsmen in Lagos on Monday expressed optimism that the theme of the conference “Maritime Development: Training, Port Efficiency and Shipping Imperatives” will feature detailed and informative presentations on specific topics.

Further stated that the conference will address key challenges and opportunities in the maritime industry based on industry trends and developments.

AMJON President, Kelvin Kagbare, in his speech assured participants of in-depth presentations, expert analyses, and engaging discussions that will act as a catalyst for new collaborations, business opportunities, and partnerships.

He said, “The conference promises to be a platform for maritime industry stakeholders to share knowledge, expertise, and best practices, and to discuss industry challenges and opportunities.”
