National President, Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN), and Archbishop of Owerri Ecclesiastes Province, of the Anglican Communion, the Most Rev. Dr. David Onuoha, has said that the only way to see the national rebirth which we so much desire is for our leaders to be willing to shun corruption, impunity and greed.
Most Rev.Onuoha who made this known in his address to Nigerians in commemoration of the country’s 63rd independence celebration urged the present day leaders to be deliberate and intentional in steering the course of the nation adding that corruption is presently moving at a breath-taking speed in the country.
Meanwhile, the CCN president has urged the church irrespective of denomination to take some time out to seek the face of God for forgiveness of opportunities wasted by our leaders, hopes betrayed, vision derailed, justice denied, innocent lives wasted, wealth squandered and the unbridled selfishness that define most of their intentions and actions at present.
Onuoha who is also the Anglican Bishop of Okigwe-South of Imo State said: “We must always remember that righteousness exalts a nation while sin is a reproach to any people.
“Both the leaders and the led must realize the basic truth that we have no other nation to call our own.”
According to Onuoha, the virtues of truth, honesty, love, peace, justice, equity and fairness remain the soul of any nation adding that when these are thrown away for whatever consideration, the nation dies.
“Let us resolve to make this project called Nigeria work and be resolute in pursuing all that is true, honest, just, pure, lovely and of good report.
“Seeking the wellbeing and good of all men is the best way to self-preservation, he added.
