Reps declares two lawmakers’ seat vacant, States reason

The tenth House of Representatives said it has declared two seats of it’s members vacant.

The disclosure was made on Tuesday by the speaker Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, at plenary after the formal resignation letters of the affected former lawmakers were read.

Those affected were: Hon. Tanko Sunono, who represented Yauri/Shanta/Ngaski federal constituency of Kebbi State, while Hon. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, represented Akoko North East and Akoko North-West Federal Constituency of Ondo State.

Declaration of their seats vacant was sequel to the The two lawmakers nomination, screening and swearing-in as ministers by President Bola Tinubu. They have since commenced their duties in their respective ministries.

Sunono was appointed the Minister of State for Education, while Tunji-Ojo was made the Minister of Interior.

To this end, the Speaker directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to organise bye-elections for the respective constituencies.

This declaration brings the total number of vacant seats in the House to four including the former speaker Femi Gbajabiamila who is now Chief of Staff to the president.
